Finally, after a few false starts I made it to Rio Dulce on the Caribbean side of Guatemala…’stayed at the venerable Bruno’s, in the shadow of the bridge and didn’t get much further. The best laid plans of mice and men, etc…the food? fairly decent, but considering that Bruno’s is Ground Zero for the indigent cast of castaway gringos in the vicinity, that would explain the cuisine. The plan for sampling the new mexican restaurant likewise was scuttled…take the water taxi, was the suggestion..

the driver had some mechanical issues with his truck and a schedule to meet….so we beat it the next day and stopped at Quirigua…a Mayan center I’d read of….damned xlnt place, hot and humid and not enough time to properly see it all…for fuller details, go to www.examiner.com/x-22480-central-america-travel-examiner Rio Dulce is up and I’m cogitating on the Quirigua piece…there’s too much detail/history to cram into a 500 word max article
