and the winner’s of the most biz on a slow Tuesday night? dos Reilly’s, hands down…2nd runnerup…Travel Menu/El Muro…two totally different venues/crowds. TM has a ‘snug feel’ intimate, cozy kinda like being in a ship’s cabin or a….fill in your own blanks. El Muro has a slightly nasty vibe, which i like and their waitresses are always sultry(which i also resonate to) El Caminante como Studio 35 closed for remodeling…mitos, that lame excuse for a bar/disco on 5ta sur…music at top volume, place empty…as was most every place else tonight…Mario, Ximena, Curtis and unknown lady friend at O’Lot…likewise quiet…El Caz italiano? walked by at 8pm and they were deadzo..F2 closed for 2nd night in a row, that i know of…
Abassi in their new location? dying the death of no business…when they were on 4th calle, with the rugs, the lights and the ‘redness’ of it all…it worked…now?rotsa ruck…Lex Cargo? narrowly escaped major injuries but sustained some serious bruises, cuts and scrapes after being sideswiped while riding his motorcycle yesterday..damned lucky to have walked away with some temporary cuts/scrapes….to tell the truth, when i saw the bruises, i was thinking’ rough sex’ and channeling Flor…oops..don’t go there…
so…goin’ home, up 5ta norte…Ricardos’ Tabacos y Vinos ‘open…he waves me in…night after night some kinda crowd, small, large but usually always entertaining…the choices tonight were tequila or red wine…o!…at El Muro, Max sets out a gallon jug of red wine, ordered for his wife….Carlo Rossi’ Red Mountain!….f…k me! have’nt had a taste of that since…1968, when it was the only thing I could afford…$3.75 a gallon…tipped it up, via the finger thru the glass ring, perch it on the upraised right elbow and pour..better than I remember….and thanks, again..Frank, for the outrageous time on Saturday..
DA Vinci? only saw one of the three Claudias…they were doin’ a couple of tables..chez chris looking on in envy….let’ s hope that this weeks independence day crowds leave some money in the till….Riki’s dead, El Cielo closed…this place may morph into another Carmel or Palm Springs…maybe Sausalito…Suchitoto in El Salvador should be so lucky.
