I wondered about the truck load of sand, being wheelbarrowed in to what was the old ‘Papas and Beer’ failure….yep, ’13’ the concept bar next door has done a ‘beach’ thing…sand on the floor, tropical looking bar. As Jerome of Travel Menu asked…’what about the cigarette butts, the broken glasses, the pop tops?’…..good question….another ‘only in Antigua’ thing….
Almacen Troccoli, the scene of the evening’s social event…a few old-time gringo Antiguenos, a photographer, TLG and his trio playing but not being heard…what was it for/about? 80q, said Bill Harriss….I came in thru the back door and skipped the door charge…and it wasn’t worth 80q..
Travel Menu’s expansion plans are subject to local rules..’Never do today what you can put off til next month’….like my previous print shop…down the street, in what was the Cargo Room, a sad tale…Bill or Will, long time friends of Jim O, came down from Texas to open a restaurant. They/he got robbed this week and lost it all, except for a Toyota 4 Runner, now for sale…damn…
Bobby Darling aka Joe Lada, back in town…Mike Chrisman aka Piano Mike, due in next week, along with Mike D. aka the ‘Perfesser’…Gabi Altman, the ultra-delicious Slav from Slovakia, due back also…opening a restaurant in Muxbal (where’s that?)…if my Mayan understanding is close, does that sound like ‘Mush Ball’?
Max Gonzalez and wife in town for a few days, resting up from doing the hostel thing in Lankin….10 days on, 3 or 4 off, with the hellacious drive…no thanks.. and apparently a long awaited real estate deal done today…if so, they’re off and outa here soon..and will be missed, by many people. And yes, will this rain ever quit? the ever marvelous Marbel, in El Portal earlier…with a tika spot on her forehead….i said that in India, on the wedding night, the groom gets to scrape off the spot and see if he’s won anything, like a liquor store or a motel…drum roll!
The latest print run of 25 copies of ‘A Year of Driving Dangerously’ is down to 6….whoopee! KDP, part of Amazon.com, has launched it…worldwide…even %$#@! Mexico….who knows?
