needed in town…where’s the spirit, the drive, the colorful characters that used to drive Antigua? places closing right and left, some others slowly imploding weekly….I dunno…yeah, some new places open here and there….Tarritos next to what was Hector’s, the Beer Company next to Ocelot.
For me, the last few years of ‘highpoints’ were Uwe’s over the top birthday party, followed by the first Venetian Masked Ball, Gabi A’s short-lived reign at Panza Verde and then it seems like there’s been a slow and steady downward curve of nightlife in Antigua. Lava is hanging on, Micho’s, now that Bobby Darling is bringing in a few people on Wednesdays, Travel Menu et al..there’s Flor’s Fashion Show at La Casbah this friday night, worth seeing if only to observe the very tasty Flor.
One by one, the annual influx of part-timers is returning…Big Bob and now Hogan…can Hap be far behind? Ponzi Bob is said to be returning after the first of the year and where the hell is Barb? her Thanksgiving dinners used to be legendary…nostalgia just isn’t what it used to be, you know?
and the sign is off the Black Cat’s annex on 5th calle…looks like they’re pulling stakes also…maybe the world really did end last December and we’re all just diagonally parked in a parallel universe..maybe Copia Fiel will have my new price stickers today…maybe…
