Someone is working on what was the old Tacocontento space on 5th norte…2 elect meters (one up, I assume) and so on, Djinn, Angel’s indian goods emporium, pulled the plug on their location in what was Sangre et al…I s’pose that being closer to Ground Zero, in the Fiesta Mexicana restaurant, makes sense….god knows, being on upper 5th Ave isn’t cutting it anymore…Studio 54 been gone for a while, Gaia not much, and how does the Galeria Merced stay open, unless they’re funded by the Church? that said, Don Martin’s,on outer 4th, is shortening their hours and yes, another blast of optimism…a new Mayan handicrafts store even further up/out on 4th norte.
This town….there’s only enough biz for X amount of bars/restaurants/arts and crafts stores, yet…and in the beginning of the ‘slower than usual’ season….I’d heard someone say that ’13 restaurants’ are gonna be closing….so? who would know the difference? The Snug/Travel Menu folks are carving out a piece of the action, either with music or food…the Steak Night is getting good marks, the Sunday ‘Roast’ not…they’re trying though…just like Blake aka Pappy’s….and where in the hell is he moving to? and yes…another sign of ‘overkill’….can this town really support three Pub Quiz’s? you’ve got Ocelot, Reilly’s La Esquina and now Red Zebra? didn’t think there was that many functioning brain cells left.
and yes, a few folks are leaving…some for good, some for a while, so if you see some empty spaces at the bar of your choice, that’s the reason…and no, I haven’t been out/about in awhile…tired of the ‘bar scene’, same people same gossip, same negativity…ever notice how some people just seem to attract weird? No names…just watch who hangs with who/whom…at least there’ll one source of laughter coming to town this week…alabama Bob returns, wednesday…Alex of Sobremesa, off to Ireland and Sardinia for a while…I could use some laughs: my horoscope mentioned something about ‘cosmic influences’….right…as if… and a note of warning….”its recipe is a well kept secret,” etc…but at 3am when the rain wakes you and all there is is a half empty bottle of Cinzano Dry Vermouth, opened a month ago, not even ice cuts the stench/flavor…
