so, one of my personal ‘Antigua’ landmarks closed their doors this week…La Viniera Antigua, on 5th ave south. When I first moved here, back in ’08, that became a personal favorite. It was ‘family’ with Beppe, his mom Lucia, Paolo and the amazing twins, Margarite and Michaela. I watched him sell his horse, a Mercedes and now…closing the doors forever. There was the scoundrel Ignacio and always an interesting mix of locals/travelers…’sorry to see them go..
So, the new Wendy’s, on the square? empty, no customers and so on…not like the ‘Dunkin’ Donuts’ that was a hit from Day One.
Some come, some go: we’re losing Mike D aka the Perfesser and Jackson for most of the summer and what do we get in exchange? Blodgett…
is the ‘replace the water mains’ project going anywhere? still leaks in front of the Palacio, I notice…and thanks, one and all, for the encouraging remarks about my ‘recovery.yeah, bit by bit, day by day…
if you’re a ‘sandwich’ kind of person, the Casa Blanca deli on 5th south serves up a monster of a sandwich, good for two meals…best of all, there’s a ‘sneeze shield’ in front of the meats, so you can see what shape the ingredients are in..or not.
und zo, the week end is here…we’ve got soldiers walking the streets and at least 16 departments of the country don’t even have PNC presence..I guess we should be grateful.
