in the social fabric of Antigua a few days ago, with the passing of Bruce McCowan. He was a true Renaissance prince and I wish that I’d known him better….who was he? think Panza Verde and that’s only a small fraction of his life.
and what was once, La Pena del Sol, is now padlocked/sealed by the City. When you think of all the time, sweat and energy that Bill, Mary and the crew put into that operation, it’s also a death.
ok…positive stuff…Hector, my regular tuc-tuc driver, has expanded by buying another one (with plans for more). This is #48 and fairly new. He’s happy and proud: the other drivers are giving him the ‘fish eye.’
and how many more ‘mexican/taco’ joints can this town maintain? ‘just like always….somebody opens a bar/restaurant and a week later someone opens one just like it, across the street. The only winners are the landlords, who laugh all the way to the bank.
so, the Wednesday night ‘art event’ at Panza Verde? it had been a few years since so I went last week…and was disappointed with everything, from the wine onward. Gabi A, when she worked it…well, she worked it; I miss her and PV were fools to fire her but then that place has its own problems, probably compounded now with the loss of Bruce.
and, just maybe, a ‘road trip’ for me sometime soon, trying again for Xela, as I was last spring before all that ‘medical stuff’ happened…we’ll see. I’m in contact with one of the ‘usual suspects.’
