despite all the hoopla about the Prez stepping down, it appears that his attorney has some good points: like where is the money? where’s the proof that I was mentioned in the phone calls and no…I didn’t import anything…it’ll be good for more ‘bread and circus’ next week, when the trial reopens on Tuesday…if nothing else, his statement that he declined to take massive bribes from El Chapo Guzman may resonate.
the 2nd anniversary of La Taberna went weird…the entire complex was returned to a previous owner, who threw out everyone that night…except for ‘L’Osteria who bought some time and the Choco Museo, who’s negotiating….La Taberna? gonzo…lock, stock and liquor…whew..another, only in Antigua event.
the great ‘replace the water main’s project in town oozes forweird, one block at a time, with leaks(of course). Th election tomorrow has forced stores to stop selling alcohol! o damn!…Bodegona’s blue plastic sheets of death went up at noon..I beat the ‘buzzer’ by minutes…thank god.
the reputed new location of San Martin, the bakery at the corner of 6th/6th? Serious electrical wires put in this week….but where’s the parking? buy a bun and run?I dont’ get it, but that’s typical…the town packed, as usual on a Saturday…villagers come to town for the price of a bus ride (3 q)walk around, buy an ice cream for 5 q and that’s the current economy of Antigua. The spanish school students have left, the back-packers back to whatever junior college they came from, the visitors from El Salvador brought a little bit of money but as Bugs Bunny used to say, ‘that’s all, folks!.’
I’m hopeful that the elections might change things but it’ll be while…in the meantime, we’ve got the usual September doldrums of no tourists/no money…take a hike, take a vacation and ride it out, til Thanksgiving(november, late). I’ll post the latest trip saga (Cantel-glass factory)on Monday, the September version of Our Man is up/out on Kindle and there’ll be a local print run of Our Man’ out in late September…control your enthusiasm/hysteria…please..
