thanks a lot, Volcan Fuego…a sleepless night, windows shaking and and now a light dusting of ash in/around Antigua….a long time resident said it was the worst he’s seen in 20 years….good, a new record for Guatemala in stead of the daily murder count.l…hey! we’re not as bad as El Salvador, ok?
6th ave,
Franks’s Place, el Cerro de San Cristobal, now open Mon-Sundays per the sign in Nim P’Ot….wait! isn’t that seven days a week? dunno….shuttle leaves from Nim P’ot at 9am, sign said..breakfast buffet on the weekends, with Nelson and his great piano work on either Sat or Sunday….no, it’s not pianist envy, ok?
The River of Gold project! Frank, once a minion/gofer for those who shall remain nameless, has started a singular little business of spending a couple of nights on the fabulous Motagua river, do some panning for gold(yes, it’s there, I’ve seen it) and enjoy the very rural experience of Guatemala…it’s not quit 100% yet, but soon…I cant imagine being on the river, getting drunk with Frank at midnight….well, actually I can…BTDT, you know..
so, a URS (usually reliable source) said there was an English pub going in on 6th AVe, sur and a purely Guatemala style restaurant on 6th calle….well? the restaurant is on 6th ave sur, close to Londoner…and I suppose that since Los Tres Tiempos on upper 5th ave set the standard for Guate comida, they figured…..wrong..LTT is barely making it and they’re good.
and thanks to a moment of whatever, I have a spiffy red flying saucer shaped George Foreman grill…’haven’t used it yet, but I’m thinking of it..
and yes, yesterday was Hash Wednesday, which means this weekend starts the first of the processions and five weeks of such…o boy…anybody have a cave to rent for a while? maybe I’ll get stuck in Salama next week…
