music! Nelson is playing multiple gigs..Panza Verde, Frank’s Place, Angie Angie’s…whew…Dr J and Piano Mike, an unlikely duo, at the Exit Inn tomorrow at 8pm…Alex’ latest creation/restaurant about to open in the rear of Nido Antigua.
and the mess they call 5th calle poniente(west)..workers working at 7pm, trying to finish the screw-up…Christophe says it’s been five weeks of hell and with the first of the big-time processions/with crowds beginning tonight…ah, Antigua..you really know how to screw things up. And no usual Friday night municipal band concert at the Palacio? why?…street under repair, that’s why..the Marimbas under City Hall had a crowd, some dancing.
changes? o where to start? the lower level bar at Casbah is gone…reverted to Djinn, one of the last shops..which means that Marvelous Marbel is out of a job, at least for now…heard that four bars have recently been raided/shut down for various infractions, with Las Vibras being one…the other three? dunno…unconfirmed info, as usual with A-Town..
and the traffic cops were actually directing traffic! as in working! the trail of cars leaving town was bummer to bummer..oops..bumper..
und zo..it’s a starry night, meaning a cold one..wrap up with someone, is my advice.
and tomorrow? the outflow of the latest public printing of Our Man in Antigua, hither, thither and yon..and it’s being included in the 2015 edition of the Moon/Guatemala Travel Guide (the best)..whoopee, I say..go to the Amazon site (they just sent me $$)at http://www.amazon.com/author/michaelsherer for the latest specials, some free.
so, it’s a choice between starting the fire or sending out for two fat women…eskimo stuff, you know…it’s the ‘fire’…cheaper/easier/less hassle and I figured out why there’s the occasional crease in my right knee…propped against the tuk-tuk frame to avoid the bumps…hah, he said…I came back in tuk-tuk #3, who is starting a hamburger business across the street from an existing hamburger place, Hamburguesa Gigante…neither will survive..the new Dunkin’ Donuts, across from Burger King on 3rd calle pon/west?…lines of people and they MIGHT make it..go out and make it a great weekend, somewhere, somehow..la vida es corte/life is short, we know.
Two Stroke Dave

thank you, yet again, Jim O, for some great Antigua history. “Valley of the Dolls’, etc. Two Stroke Dave, later revised to Rolex Dave, ultimately met his demise in El Salvador. This town has so many fascinating chapters/characters, that every day is chock fulla laughs..”Bull Durham’ another book of stories/adventures, same Reid C…and, of course the inimitable H.B.T, who never runs out of stories…like his current ‘situation’ which I’m not going into…we may, depending on some variables, be traveling to Zacapa next weekend…I have no idea how he and the ‘captain’ will mesh/get along, as they’re polar opposites but that’s yet to be seen.
so, another notch added to the ’86’d from that place/this place..it’s hard to keep track of the individuals who reach this pinnacle of bad behavior but fortunately there’s only a few players of this caliber. If you’re a habitue or frequent flier in the bar scene here, you’ll recognize the signs…regular binges and the usual warning signs of angry outbursts, serious intoxication and then just ol falling down drunk and disorderly behavior.
Music? you want music? got it…last night at Travel Menu, Bobby Darling opened for Piano Mike and Andy Luna…tonight, Piano Mike and his alter ego, Guitar Mike play at Hops and Tails, the old El Muro place on 3rd Calle. Travel Menu? their remod, I think, is great…food, equally so..that’s a hot location for some, not others…that side of 6th calle is basically bar to bar, like Punto Zero, staring at La Sala/Reilly’s across the street…how many bars are there in that end of town? How does Mitos or Segafreddy’s keep going? what’s up/not up with the old Sangre on upper 5th? its mucking afazing to me..
the ever glorious Tanya Hughes returns tomorrow…Nazi John not far behind and where the hell is Hogan Von Daniken? Next week, the 4th, is the one year anniversary of La Taverna…still hanging on, thanks at least to Dave the Slave..the main reason is their relaxed/non existent enforcement of the ‘no smoking’ law..if it weren’t for that..who knows?
so…Labor Day? yeah, Monday, at least in the You Ess of A, which from here appears to be more f….ed than ever…if you read/watch the news, it’s one sad screw-up after another: Fox News is no better than a cartoon network for dummies, no? and I think that we’re all on the same page as the latest Monsanto ‘cram downs’ for here and El Salvador…even Vietnam, defoliated by Agent Orange, rolled over..’those who don’t remember history, etc..’the mind reels…I think I’ll take my medicine early (Flor de Cana) and space out…have a great weekend!

it damn sure isn’t a mosquito bite and necrosis hasn’t set in(yet)but at least it isn’t ‘brain eating amoebas’ like they have in Arkansas (and how would they know the difference aka before and after?)
I think HBT’s old traveling buddy, Joe Miller, leaves us tomorrow…a ‘short/sweet visit’….Reid C and Mike Donley due to return next month….yeah, the underlining….wtf?
‘ran into Bill Harriss, lately of La Pena del Sol…getting his van fixed…he and Mary are off to Rio Dulce, spend a few weeks on their sail boat…come back and pick up the van and take a road trip: Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras….he’s being philosophical about the ‘boot…’ calling it his 3rd retirement..
James aka Santiago Durham! on a new scooter and getting around again…the hip thing will have to be replaced in May(it was the cheap plastic model) but he’s ‘out and about.’
yeah, the “Year of Driving Dangerously’?….even more creative excuses from Frener aka the ‘printer’….’there was a holiday’…yeah, but you’re not Catholic and that only applied to the City and Joco. At least the Sept version of our Man in Antigua is ready to upload to Amazon.com….a couple of hotel changes, La Pena, Hector’s…and the rain has stopped…should I go out? again? why not play ‘spin the bottle’ and see where it points to?
ah…Papa Towns’ new marketing strategy!
Lastly/leastly…the very lame art exhibition at Dishwater is having an ‘open house’ wednesday evening…anything that combines zen/starship and so on…etc…hey, go see for yourself…2 minutes did me a few weeks ago..’Action Jackson’ aka Dr J, now playing Monday nights at Cafe No Se and Thursdays at Dishwater…and practicing more and more…
